If your child is unwell or develops symptoms of COVID-19 whilst at home, they must not come to school. You must inform the school of your child’s absence and arrange a COVID-19 test. You can arrange a test by calling 119 or visiting https://www.nhs.uk/ask-for-a-coronavirus-test.

If the test is negative then they may return to school when they feel better.

If the test is positive then you must inform the school and remain at home. You must follow the Government guidelines.

The most common symptoms of COVID-19 are recent onset of:

• a new continuous cough


• a high temperature


• a loss of, or change in, your normal sense of taste or smell (anosmia)

For most people, COVID-19 will be a mild illness.

If your child does develop symptoms, you can seek advice from the nhs.uk website at https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/coronavirus-covid-19/check-if-you-havecoronavirus-symptoms/. If you are concerned about your child’s symptoms, or they are worsening you can seek advice from NHS 111 at https://111.nhs.uk/ or by phoning 111.

The school will follow the latest Government guidelines if a child becomes unwell whilst at school. Here are the key actions:

• Parents will be contacted to come and collect their child from school via the playground gate


• Whilst waiting for collection the child will be isolated in a well ventilated area.


• Staff will wear suitable PPE and keep their distance.


• Parents need to arrange a COVID test for the child and inform the school of the outcome as soon as possible.

Returning to school after illness

After a period of illness, your child can return to school based learning either after they have had a negative COVID test result OR completed the isolation period fully.
