Our Approach: Quality First Teaching & Targeted Support

Our primary approach to supporting pupils with additional needs is through Quality First Teaching and effective classroom differentiation. Our staff adapt lessons, environments, and learning materials to ensure learning is accessible to all.

When a child requires support beyond regular classroom differentiation, we follow a collaborative approach. Staff work closely with parents, carers, internal colleagues, and external specialists to put appropriate, targeted intervention in place.

The 4 Broad Areas of Special Educational Need

We tailor support across all four primary areas defined in the SEND Code of Practice:

• Cognition and Learning: Support for pupils who learn at a different pace or require tailored strategies to acquire skills.


• Communication and Interaction: Support for speech, language, and social communication needs.


• Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH): Nurturing emotional well-being, resilience, and mental health.


• Sensory and Physical Difficulties: Adaptations and support for visual, hearing, sensory processing, or physical needs.

Working in Partnership with Families

The views, wishes, and feelings of our pupils and their families are at the heart of everything we do. We actively encourage parents and carers to participate in every decision regarding their child’s provision, ensuring we work as a team to achieve the best outcomes.
