Nursery
Stourport Primary Academy offers a full nursery provision from 2 years old until they join our Reception class as Rising 5’s. We believe children learn best when they feel loved and secure and aim to support each child to identify their own sense of identity and self – worth, as well as focusing on each and every child’s individual needs and interests. We know that a good early years education from a young age, can help to boost child development and that is why we are offering families a chance to get a head start for their children.
We recognise that children learn through play and exploration and so, our Nursery, our provision is largely learning through play, with a routine that incorporates adult led activities and builds on children developing knowledge and curiosity. Our carefully chosen resources and activities promote physical coordination and manipulative skills, role play and creativity. We recognise that children learn through play and, as they begin the first chapter of their school journey, they need exciting and interesting environments which address their needs and nurtures a love for learning – and we feel extremely privileged to see, first hand, the benefits to the children who attend our Nursery provision.
Our Nursery provision is split into two classes – Mulberry for 2-3 year olds and Elderberry for 3-4 years. Both Nursery rooms are vibrant and well resourced with a wide range of learning opportunities to foster children’s natural curiosity and promote independence. Our exciting outdoor environments provide children with lots of challenge to encourage physical development and an interest in learning about, and working with nature. Our experienced and friendly team is led by our Nursery teacher Miss Emma Wilkins who, as a fully qualified teacher, will provide the children with a range of experiences which can be built on and developed during their time with us.
We communicate with parents and carers on a regular basis and in a variety of ways – so that we can all work together to ensure your child is safe, happy and learning. This includes daily conversations with your child’s key-worker at handover and pick up so share any key or urgent formation, using Parent Passport to share learning highlights and observations and regular newsletters and text/email updates.
- We accept children from the term after their 2nd birthday. As two-year old places are limited early registration is advised.
- We offer 15 and 30 hour funded hours, additional sessions are available on request subject to availability.
- Nursery Education Funding Forms (NEF) needs to be completed and returned before we can access the funding for your child. Your child will not be able to start without us being in receipt of this.
- We offer daily sessions 8.45am- 11.45am and 12.30 – 3.30pm. Your child is able to stay for lunch at an additional cost.
- We are only able to offer additional sessions and these must form part of the child’s overall regular attendance. We are not able to offer occasional ad-hoc hours.
- Invoices will be issued, in advance at the beginning of each month. Payment will need to be made in full within 14 days. If accounts remain outstanding after this period sessions will be restricted to funded sessions only.
- Missed sessions due to sickness or any other absences are non-refundable.
- Once sessions are booked and confirmed any changes you wish to make need to be done by completing the enclosed ‘Change to Sessions’ form.
- We do suggest that children attending nursery wear the uniform that is offered as we feel it helps children feel part of the school.
- Where children are still in nappies it is parents’ responsibility to supply sufficient nappies, wipes and nappy sacks for their daily needs.
- Children will need to bring wellingtons and a coat every day for outdoor play.
- There are various policies that help to safeguard both children and staff. These can be accessed via the Policies page of school website.
- We are a cashless school so payment for all Nursery fees outside of funded hours will need to be paid by bank transfer.
Funding is only available term time only for 38 weeks per year. The funding allocation takes into consideration where the school is closed for teacher training days. All 3 and 4 year olds are entitled to a free, early education place of 15 hours per week from the term after their third birthday.

Two year old funding of 15 hours per week is available to those in receipt of the following benefits:-
- Income Support
- Income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance (JSA)
- Income-related Employment and Support Allowance (ESA)
- Universal Credit and household earnings are no more than £15,400 per year the guaranteed element of State Pension Credit
- Child Tax Credits, with an annual household income of no more than £16,190
- Working Tax Credits, with an annual household income of no more than £16,190
- Working Tax Credit 4-week run on (paid for 4 weeks after a family stops qualifying for Working Tax Credits) support through part 6 of the Immigration and Asylum Act and you have a NASS number
- Please note that parents are not eligible where they claim working tax credits and child tax credits at the same time.
All 3-year olds are automatically entitled to 15 hours of nursery funding, starting from the term after they turn 3. However, some parents/carers might be eligible for an extra 15 hours funding on top of this, allowing them up to 30 hours of nursery funding.
