The School Day

about-us-the-school-day

Our school day runs from 8:50am until 3:20pm. This equates to six and a half hours a day 32.5 hours a week.

The gates onto the playground open at 8:40am each morning and the children come straight into school. The gates close at 8:50am.  There will always be a member of staff at the gate to greet the children and speak to parents if needed, but we try to let the children come into school on their own, which we find gives the children a quicker, more purposeful start to the day.

If you arrive after 8:50am, children will need to enter through the main reception and be signed in by Mrs Dicks, our attendance officer.

Registration

The register takes place at 8:50 in the classroom. During this time, each class has a range of ‘morning activities’ including reading, practising spellings and mindfulness to get the day off to a good start. Children arriving after registration up until 9.20 are classed as late. After 9.20 the children’s absence is an unauthorised absence – this in line with Government Guidance

Unauthorised absences and lates will affect children’s attendance data.

Mornings

Each morning, all classes have a balance of Phonics or Reading, Writing and Maths. On Mondays and Fridays we usually have an assembly in the hall first.

Afternoons

The afternoons are full of lots of exciting wider curriculum lessons following Geography, History, Art and or Design Technology, Computing, Music, Modern foreign languages, RE, Jigsaw, PE, Science. Children may not have every subject every week – for example, to ensure they have longer to accomplish bigger projects, subjects like Art and Design Technology may be delivered across a whole day or a number of afternoons in one week.  Subjects like Geography and History are timetabled based on the current topic being taught.

End of the Day

The bell signalling the end of school day rings at 3:20pm. The gates onto the playground open at 3:15pm for parents to enter the playground.

Across the week, we offer a large number of Extra Curricular Clubs after school and SOS, our Wrap-Around Care is open until 5:30pm Tuesday-Thursday.
